Going digital is now firmly set as a part of your life. You now scan documents and receipts to create digital records. You get a lot of bills and invoices emailed to you. You even pay them electronically. You communicate to friends and family through social media venues.

So why are you still using a recipe box with tattered and food stained recipes cards?

We know why. They are sort of, you know, sentimental. We get that, but when you go digital with your recipes the possibilities of what you can do are almost endless.

Endless possibilities with two possible solutions.

Both MacGourmet Deluxe and MacGourmet enables you to easily create, edit, organize, and share your recipes. Create a shopping list, make notes about wine, beer, and cheese. Search for something for dinner, add to your collection without typing, import from other recipe products. With proprietary cloud support, your recipe collection will be saved and updated without you having to think about it. It’s all there for you – recipe management that you can only do on a Mac – in one neat package.

Organize, categorize, classify.

We’ve already added list categories, but feel free to create your own. Make a list for Vegetarian, Gluten-free, Sugar-free, Low Fat, even “recipes from Grandmother.” If you’ve been using a different recipe management solution and want to keep those recipes separate, all you need to do is create a new List and import just those recipes into that list folder – it’s that easy. You can create Smart Lists based on criteria such as dates, source, cuisine – even yield. Flag the recipes that make you stand out at dinner parties.

Your recipe collection will make your friends envious.

Bring life to your recipes. Let’s face it, reviewing the list of ingredients is an important factor in selecting a dish, but when an image of the final product is added, all the senses can get involved. Use one of the many supplied themes and your recipe box takes on a life of its own. Plus, every cook knows how important it is to be able to see the instructions as well as to read them. You can add images to the directions so that you will know that you’re on the right track. You can know in advance what equipment you’ll need, how long it will take to prepare your dish and whether it’s one that is very involved or one that you can whip up in no time.

Pairings. The difference between good and great.

Cooking is more than just being able to create a great recipe. It’s also being able to create great pairings. What wine should you serve with your beef – a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot? How about dessert – Muscat or Riesling? Use Wine Notes to document the wine that went the best with your favorite apple dessert. You’ve got a Pinot Noir in your cupboard, should you pair it with Colby or Cheddar – or both? You’ll know that either one will go nicely when you document it in your Cheese Notes. Wait, you say you’re a cicerone? Well then, you already know that a light Lager will go just fine with your homemade Agnolotti. When you use the Beer Notes, that information will always be at your disposal.

But can you add any recipe from any where?

Absolutely. MacGourmet Deluxe and MacGourmet provides two methods for adding to your collection – the Import Feature and the Clipping Feature. What’s the difference? Easily import all the elements of a recipe from a recipe site – from ingredients to images. Many times, however, site change their formats, require subscriptions or totally redesign their site. When that happens it’s still easy to add a recipe to your collection using the Clipping Feature. No matter what, you can add a recipe with little to no typing and with spending very little time.

Beyond the box – the recipe box that is.

There is so much more you can do in MacGourmet – create a Shopping List, scale servings, use the Potluck Find to see what you can create for lunch based on what’s in your pantry. Create Cooking Notes so that you’ll always know the technique for testing whether that loaf of bread is done. When you want to take your Mac to the kitchen, use the Chef View for distraction free cooking instructions.
